Doreen Finnegan is a painter who works in a variety of mediums such as oils, watercolour, inks, acrylics, and pencils primarily on a paper surface. Her interests are varied and styles shift as she explores critical issues in contemporary society.

Doreen has spent a lifetime engaging with art, through both personal and academic forays.

Primary artistic influences were formed in the culturally rich environment of Montreal and its Museum of Fine Art. Born to a Dutch mother and Canadian father who had survived the horrors of World War 2. Doreen benefited from a blend of European and Canadian heritage as well as travel abroad exposing her to the the renowned museums and galleries of Europe.

As an adult, she attended night classes at the Camden School of Art in London, England, and continued on to attend both Ontario College of Art and Emily Carr University (then College), graduating from the latter with a focus in painting.

After many years of producing representational pieces inspired by landscape, Doreen made a conscious shift to work more expressively producing work reflective of our tumultuous times. There is a response to issues of social change and climate impact.

Though circuitous and splintered between family, work and living, Doreen’s practice has spanned decades. In her commitment to a continuous practice she aspires to resonate with those who view her work.
